‘So, if I’m hearing this right. You are saying the five have not been able to settle at home?’

‘I am certain, that is what I just expressed. Are you having a problem understanding?’

  ‘No need to get snippy!’

‘Snippy. What is this term, snippy?’

  ‘Uppity.’

‘Uppity, female, you make no sense. Talk Coalition General, not some peculiar language.’

‘It is not peculiar. You just prefer not to recognize it?’

‘It is not of this Universe and I do not need too.’

  ‘You know you mean alien.’

‘I am not alien, you may be.’

‘If you are not alien, then I am not.’

‘If you say so. What is this word, snippy?’

‘If you had the download, then you would know what snippy means.’

  ‘My body is my temple.’

  ‘Temple… really!’

‘Yes. Why is there a need to qualify that statement?’

  ‘Who told you that?’

  ‘Why are you here?’

‘I like your office; it smells nice, like Brenda.’

‘I have no idea what you are inferring.’

‘Nothing, what is there to infer?’

Heather entered Marlo’s office and demanded with what Peyton considered unjustified tone. ‘Oh my stars, do you two always do this?’

Together they stared at her and asked. ‘Do what?’

Heather shook her head. ‘There are no words.’

Marlo told Peyton seriously. ‘Captain Grathum Powera is having the most difficult time adjusting. I believe the others in his unit would find their way, if he did.’

Marlo had recovered his health in the three luneras since they had returned to Maikonia from Oraintarre. With his foot healed, thanks to the miracle of the Star Child, he could train and had regained his muscle mass. Brenda had taken over his care and was making sure he ate regularly and did not over work. Marlo and his squad brothers were older than most of the other Warriors, most of the Warriors from the moon were of the same age. Which seemed to have worked out for the ladies of Brenda and Helen’s age.

Peyton had been correct when she told Netta luneras ago that Marlo was going to become important to their family. He and his squad brothers were the father and uncles the sisters had been missing. All four were well liked, but Peyton and Marlo had developed a special bond. She asked Heather. ‘How is their mental and physical health?’

‘All five of them physically could go back on the roster. Jarrod said they are mentally healed, but in my opinion, it is their hearts and needars that require healing now. They need more time.’

Peyton grimaced. ‘Well, he and you would know.’ Marlo frowned at her words. Peyton asked as she detected his expression from the corner of her eye.

‘You disagree with Jarrod and Heather’s assessment, Marlo?’

‘I do, they do not know Warriors. Maikonia Warriors are strong in mind and body; they need to return to duty, the rest will correct itself overtime.’ He growled at Heather. ‘Release them for duty, Healer.’

Heather’s eyes narrowed, causing Marlo to hide the grin that wanted to burst forth at her expression. He treasured these females more than he thought would ever have been possible. Especially after his time on Oraintarre. Within wekens of arriving on Prime he and his brothers had discovered why the Warriors, they had met in the first few days after their rescue, expressed the same sentiment.

‘Excuse me, Commander, when I require your expert opinion on the health of my patients, I will give it to you. For now, you have my report, the Warriors are still on sick leave. Peyton, I will wait for you outside.’ Heather sniffed in Marlo’s direction and flounced from the room.

Peyton eyed her sister’s exit. Very nice… I can never get the flouncing thing right.

Heather smirked as she countered. Rata taught me. You need lessons.

There are instructions in flouncing from a room? Peyton asked, and she was only half teasing. She grinned wider as she watched Marlo’s frown lower as he stared at the toe tapping Heather.

‘Ooh, you pissed her off, hope you don’t need medical for a while.’ She told the frowning male as she started from the room.

‘Females,’ He barked, ‘you are all highly sensitive. We don’t need coddling.’

Brenda coming in from the opposite door with his meal tray asked. ‘Is that so, why then am I carrying a meal to your office Marlo Daimond?’

Marlo swung around as she thumped his tray down on the desk. ‘Now my Brenda, do not take that tone with me. You know I did not mean you. Those two, they drive me to say things.’

He pointed toward Peyton and Heather, who were smirking at the look of consternation on his handsome face. While Brenda stood with her arms crossed and her toe tapping now. The last they saw as Marlo closed the door with a distinct click, was him trying to take a barely resisting Brenda in his arms.

Peyton sighed. ‘They make a delightful couple.’

‘Did you notice their markings? Just like Helen and Larson’s.’

‘Eww, why do you say things like that? You know I devote all my time to ignoring all of you marked people?’

  ‘Are you serious?’

‘Yes, it is like knowing you are all doing it?’

  ‘Well, of course we are.’

‘Oh my Stars, what is wrong with you?’

Heather sang. ‘It appears you will be conducting ceremonies soon.’ As she strode into the transfer circle, then laughed at the look on Peyton’s face, which was a cross between delight and hysteria.

‘Friggin’ hayda.’ Peyton snarled as she stepped into her office.

  TWO:

Two days later, Heather and Esther found a somber Helen in her kitchen staring out a window, her mind obviously kilto’s away. It was an expression she had been wearing often in the pass few wekens. They were not the only two people to have seen the change in her; she was not her normal happy self.

Most days no one could get her to even offer an opinion. Larson told Esther he was becoming concerned, which was his understated way of saying he was very worried about her. So this morning Esther had met up with Heather, who was the only sister she knew who could help her without turning whatever was bothering Helen into a drama.

After she explained what Larson had told her, she and Heather tracked Avana dow
n and explained what was worrying Larson and now them. They knew Avana had her finger on the pulse of the people on Prime. If anyone had an idea what was making Helen absent- minded, then it would be her.

‘Greetings, come in, I am pleased to see you in my consulting rooms.’

‘Greetings Avana.’ Esther said as she entered before Heather.

  ‘Greetings Avana.’

‘So ladies what can I do for you?’

‘Well to be honest Avana dearle, we do not actually need consultations what we need is information.’

‘Oh I see. Well take a seat please and I will see if I can help you.’

  ‘Thank you dearle.’

She showed them into the lounge, Heather sighed as she took a seat in the beautifully decorated room, instantly feeling soothed. ‘I love the use of color you have in here.’

‘I asked the ladies club what would be considered comforting for the Terrans, they were very helpful.’ ‘Well blues and greens definitely do that. Peyton uses those colors in her office.’

Avana smiled. ‘I have noticed, she said it reminds her of waves and land.’

Esther and Heather shared a smile at Peyton’s answer. ‘Well I suppose for her it would.’

Avana clasped her hands together in her lap and asked politely. ‘So ladies, what information do you want?’

Esther leaned forward in her chair. ‘It is Helen, we and Larson are very concerned about her. I do not know if you have noticed but she is not herself. She walks around as though she has the weight of the world on her shoulders.’

Avana frowned as she said. ‘I see.’

Heather asked. ‘So do you know what it worrying her?’

‘Yes, let me think for a moment. I must be sure I am not breaking a confidence.’

‘Of course.’ Esther sat back as they waited for her to decide.

Avana went through all the conversations she had with Helen in recent wekens and came to the conclusion they had not spoken of what was disturbing her. Therefore leaving her free to discuss what she knew with Esther and Heather which she did in detail.

Stunned, Esther sat opened mouthed as she looked first at Avana then Heather, finally saying. ‘Well I never, what should we do?’

Avana made some suggestions then after Heather shook off her amazement she added her ideas. Eventually, they came up with a plan and with thanks to Avana. They left to tackle a female who had managed to get herself, as Esther told them, all tied up in knots. Of course she then had to explain the saying to both Heather and Avana.
